This Ghanaian capital city has become an extremely popular destination for tourists for the amazing beaches and notable landmarks. However, while the rebound tourists knows where to go, how to enjoy and to get the best of the city’s offerings, the new visitors are clueless and oblivious to the city’s most obvious.
This article isn’t for you to find out the best places to visit, see, and things to do but a whole lot different.
Invest some time, taking into account the nature of the city before visiting. The tips suggested are not rocket science but we have become oblivious to these unknowingly.  Take a quick glance through the following tips of what ‘NOT TO DO’ while in Accra:

  • Unless you have excelled in your bargaining skills, getting into a taxi without agreeing to a fixed price is a dilemma. The taxi service in Accra is a huge rip off! If you are the opposite of a spendthrift, then be aware!
  • Many of us visit this interesting city for the incredible climate! However much you enjoy the rays of sunshine, you have no privilege in wearing tank tops, bikinis, etc. Make sure to wear clothes that cover all sensitive areas and dress decent.
  • While shopping is fun and exciting in the city, shopping around for mobile phones, gadgets and electronics is a big ‘NO’! Ghanaians have skilled in the art of ripping off that you’ll be lucky if your item be an empty wooden box (at least)
  • Not sure if it is a taboo but Ghanaians take offense when tourists use the left hand. Let it be for anything from eating, to paying to receiving goods, gifts, showing directions or simply shaking the hand – always remember to use your right hand.
  • As you know money is your most valued possession when travelling, next to the passport, ensure not to expose you wallet, notes or credit card details in the public. It’s a jackpot to a Ghanaian’s eye!
Ghanaians are not all bad! The city is unique on its own and the locals are very friendly. But, like in every city, you will come across the other side of people who are desperate for money and a little bit of exposure to the city’s crimes.
As a last piece of free advice, keep your valuables safe, wear decent and be courteous when holidaying in Accra. Book Accra cheap flights with us.
